Super Mario Movie 2023 review
The Super Mario Bros. Movie, produced by Illumination Studios, is a great video game adaptation that is highly enjoyable, especially for Nintendo fans. The creative team's devotion to the source material is evident, as they have incorporated references from various games and brought to life characters that were not fully developed in the games. The film has a decent story, albeit one that is predictable, but it makes up for that with its charm, humor, and genuine character interactions.
The animation is impressive, and the voice acting is excellent. Although the characters' designs have been updated, they still retain their original features and proportions. Charlie Day as Luigi and Jack Black as Bowser are standouts, and Chris Pratt delivers a great performance as Mario. However, the relationship between the brothers is undermined by the fact that they are separated for most of the movie, and Luigi is not given much to do. The film's pacing is also a bit fast, and the introspective moments are cut short.
Overall, The Super Mario Bros. Movie is a solid film that does justice to the Super Mario Bros. brand. Although it is not perfect, it is a faithful adaptation of a popular video game franchise, and it is great to see such a display of passion on the big screen. The film continues the tradition of strong and faithful adaptations of video game franchises, and it is hoped that more will follow in the future.
